Honey Basil Whole Wheat Bread
Makes 1 loaf
Ingredients
- · 1 ¾ cups of warm water
- · 3 cups of whole wheat flour
- · 2 tsp of regular yeast
- · 1 tsp of sea salt
- · 2 tsp of basil
- · 2 tbsp of olive oil
- · 2 tbsp of honey
Directions
- In a mixing bowl mix the warm water, flour and yeast. Let the dough rise for thirty minutes.
- Combine the sea salt, basil, olive oil and honey into the dough and knead until well mixed and the dough is sticky. Set aside and allow the dough to rise again for thirty minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare loaf pan by coating the inside with olive oil spray.
- Knead one last time, and place dough into loaf pan and all it to sit until it begins to fill the loaf pan (approximately 30 minutes).
- Once the dough has filled the pan, place the loaf in the oven to bake for 40 to 45 minutes.
- Remove form the oven once the loaf is cooked through and the top has turned a crusty golden brown. Allow time to cool before removing from pan and serving.

Rather than finding a real job or making something of my life, I’m making new food. Armed with a recently purchased 3lb bag of whole wheat flour, yours truly is delving into the world of veggies and whole grains.
My biggest obstacle to hurdle on this project will be my total lack of precision. I cannot successfully make a dough rise to save my life. Do you seriously expect me to get this water between 105-115 degrees to activate some yeast? Seriously? You want warm water? Ok, yeast. Hot water? I can do that. Cold water? Sure thing. Water within a 10-degree range? Now you are just being ridiculous.
If you happen to be a bread-making pro, scoot your way over here, lend me your water-temperature skills, and I will give you a compensationary cookie.
